What is CAPS?
Certified Aging in Place Specialist
The generation known as the Baby Boomers – those born in the years immediately after World War II, from 1946-1964 represent over 25% of the entire population. In London, 14% or 64,000 people are 65 years of age or older. Within the next 5 years, that number is going to double – making almost 1/3, or 130,000 people over the age of 65.
The most dominant generation in history, it has created a special circumstance of need for converting living places to suit the needs of the Boomers in their later years.
QUITE SIMPLY PUT, A CERTIFIED ‘AGING IN PLACE’ SPECIALIST IS A PERSON SPECIFICALLY TRAINED TO IDENTIFY, RECOMMEND, AND OFFER ATTRACTIVE DESIGN SOLUTIONS THAT CREATE A SAFE AND COMFORTABLE ENVIRONMENT FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO WANT TO MAINTAIN THEIR INDEPENDENCE – AND AGE IN PLACE.
To obtain certification as a Certified Aging in Place Specialist, you must take an intensive training course administered by the National Association of Home Builders. The course is designed to educate contractors and home remodellers alike on Design/Build Solution, and Communication Strategies.
Once completed, the remodeller is expertly prepared to work with seniors, persons with limited or no mobility, and their health care providers. Here at The Bathroom Medics, we are very proud to proclaim that we have three officers in the company that have obtained Certified Aging in Place Specialist Certification! To the best of our knowledge, we are the only bathroom remodellers in Ontario to hold this certification!
