WE MADE IT! SUMMER VACATION IS ALMOST DONE!
The little ones are heading back to school and we are so excited about getting back into a routine!
With the experience in our combined team we’ve got kindergarten to high school covered. Allow us to make a few suggestions....
Start
TOUGH!
AVOID eye contact!
Never let them
SEE you sweat!
Now there are going to be some little ones who are actually happy to go to school, alteast for the first week. Work with that. Enjoy the first seven days because you know the little students are going to hit a wall and want to stay home after the novelty wears off.
Middle school – well what can we say? Good Luck? We think deep down inside they’re happy to be there but goodness knows they can’t break the facade that they are miserable. Same goes for high school students, but then they’re in a whole other category.
Rebecca runs a pretty tight ship in the mornings, even during summer she does not allow for too much wavering.
You’ve got to put your big panties on and start labour day weekend with a firm “early to bed!” talk.
Electronics – especially with those teens, should be kept out of the bedrooms and left on the charging station.
And don’t forget early to rise! We know it’s going to make for some grumpy little people, but trust our years of experience.
Now the first day arrives...our suggestion to a smooth transition on the first day all the way through the school year is, stay the course!
We set alarms for our kids – FUN ones! Ones that make them smile when they hear a favourite song, or sound effect. This not only allows for some independance on their part but it means you don’t have to go around repeating yourself because “what do I do now?” has become their new motto ( replacing “I’m bored”).
One alarm to get up! Try – Fight Song by Rachel Platten!
2
nd alarm is set for after breakfast- Time to brush your teeth!– Worth It by Fifth Harmony
3
rd alarm you have now become the most fashionable student and the “time to get dressed” period is over! – Shut Up and Dance by Walk the Moon
4
th alarm allows for grabbing the lunch and back pack, you’ve got 8 minutes before the bus leaves you high and dry! - Don’t Want to Know by Maroon 5
At this point if your offspring aren’t out the door and travelling to higher education all we can say is....
TRY AGAIN TOMORROW!
Consistency is the name of the game.
