Leather couches are not only an elegant addition to home decor, they are also quite durable and can last forever when properly cared for. Investing in a luxurious leather sofa requires a cleaning and maintenance routine that involves more than simply wiping with a wet cloth. It’s imperative to keep your leather well taken care of to ensure that your investment was worthwhile; especially when your leather investment is one of London Fine Furniture’s opulent sofas. Follow the steps below to clean your leather efficiently:

What Products You’ll Require

For a safe, effective leather cleaning, ensure you have the following:

  • Leather cleaner

  • Leather conditioner

  • A vacuum soft brush attachment

  • Mild, non-abrasive dish soap

  • Baking Soda

Leather Sofa Cleaning Steps

1. Begin by vacuuming your sofa for any dirt, debris, or food particles with the soft brush vacuum attachment. This shouldn’t be as arduous as cleaning an upholstered couch because leather is not as porous. Remove the sofa cushions as well to ensure cleaning between all crevices.

2. Create your leather cleaning solution by mixing the dish soap with warm water and the leather cleaner. Dip your cloth in the concoction and wring it out to ensure it’s damp. Then, rub in small circles on the stained area until it is removed. If the stain is from grease, you may need to apply baking soda to absorb the stain.

3. Make sure you allow time for the sofa to dry completely. If water is left on the leather, it can weaken it. Use a dry cloth or rag to dry your couch fully.

4. Apply the leather cleaner onto a cloth instead of directly onto the couch. The cleaner will help to break down any dirt and additional stains to restore the couch. Swipe the cloth all around the leather, including all crevices, to avoid an uneven polish finish.

5. After you’ve done the thorough cleaning, make sure to remove any excess cleaner with a dry cloth before you begin conditioning the couch. Apply the leather conditioner to a cloth and buff it onto the sofa.

6. Allow your sofa to dry for at least an hour to allow the conditioner to fully seep in. Do not sit on it until after this duration to ensure no oil gets onto your clothing. Once completed, your leather sofa should look completely restored and ready for use.
