Meadow Park Care Centre holds holiday parade
A yuletide tradition was on the march at Meadow Park Care Centre Dec. 3. The London home’s annual Christmas parade featured the local Mocha Shriners band, the Dorchester choir, floats, staff, volunteers, Denny the pet therapy volunteer, and, of course, Santa Claus. Lining up at the chapel, parade participants made their way through the retirement lodge and then the long-term care home. Volunteer and nutritional co-ordinator Mary Ellen Sharp says the parade grew into a yearly event because residents enjoy it so much.

In celebration of Long Term Care Week, we thought we would recognize a familiar volunteer within our home.... Our Pet Therapy Dogs!
Dog Biscuits are being made by resident's on Oct 26th.  These biscuits are being sold as a fundraiser on Nov 6 at our Christmas Bazaar.  Pet therapy was invited as a community link to bring appeal to the program though our pets. In conjunction with the program we are honoring our to favorite pet's "Shiloh"  and "Denny" to visit throgh the program.  We are hoping through this link we can celebrate our home and all the special visitors that mean so much to our residents.  In the past our pet's have not been recognized as volunteer's in our home and this was a great way for us to not only recognize them, but thank them for being there for us.

Meadow Park Care in London recently celebrated its volunteers by hosting a meet-and-mingle event at the Jarlette Health Services-owned long-term care home. As part of the event volunteers got to meet one another and spend time together in a casual setting, says Mary Ellen Sharp, the home’s volunteer and nutritional co-ordinator. One of the residents’ favourite volunteers — a chow-spaniel cross named Shiloh — was on-hand for the event. While always a good friend to residents, Shiloh made some new friends, notes Sharp. “He is so sweet and endearing that even the other volunteers were excited to have him present,” she says.

Meadow Park Centre London recently hosted a car rally that was a huge hit with residents. Owners of about 40 classic automobiles, ranging from a 1937 hotrod to muscle cars from the 1970s, gathered at the home July 19 for the event. “The weather was beautiful and nearly half of our 122 residents were able to participate,” says Mary Ellen Sharp, the home’s volunteer and nutritional co-ordinator. “Life enrichment (staff) decorated for the ’50s and had music to match. They even wore poodle skirts,” she adds. Sharp notes that residents “had smiles from ear to ear” and they spent time talking about their memories about some of the cars they had owned. “It was exciting to see them so engaged,” says Sharp. The event also included hot dogs and ice-cream cones for attendees. Sharp says the event went so well that the rally’s organizers say they would like to hold the event again in the future.

We have updated our Lambton Patio this Summer. We laid new patio stones and added more space for Wheelchairs. Purchased planters and flowers and decorated with bird houses and old window frames. It was all  through donations of Meadow Park Ladies Auxiliary, Resident Council and The Jarlettes.

We raised $5000.00 through silent auctions, pampered chef fundraising, purse sales, sweetcorn stand, car rally night and donations from Meadow Park Ladies Auxiliary.

We are now only $500.00 away from our goal!

Thank you to Flandscape for all of the renovations and everyone that helped us raise the necessary funds!

London home hosts volunteer event

Congratulations and Thank you to Jarlette's first 40 year employee!
Lynda Kennedy will be celebrating 40 years of service at Meadow Park London Care Centre on November 16, 2010.  She was hired on November 16, 1970 as a housekeeping aide and the following year joined the nursing department as a Nursing Aide.  We congratulate Lynda on achieving such a great milestone and would like to thank her for her continued dedication over the years.  Lynda’s length of service is a remarkable accomplishment, not only does she hold the record for longest serving employee at Meadow Park, but for Jarlette Health Services as well!

One moment please...
Taking too long?
