Who loves going for a long walk on a sunny day? Team Heat does!
With the hot weather approaching, Team Heat wants to remind everyone of some potential dangers dogs can experience in the warmer/hot climate! Dehydration, Heat Stroke, Pests, and Sunburn are the most common dangers that dogs are exposed to! To ensure you keep your dog safe from these dangers follow the following tips and tricks:
- Never leave a dog in a hot car! - Ensure your dog has a shaded place to get away from the sun if they are spending prolonged periods of time outside! - Keep water handy at all times (walks, in car, etc.) - Although shaving your dog seem appealing, it can cause more damage then benefit, a furry dogs double coat is designed to keep them cool - shaving your dog can damage their coat as well as lead to other sun issues such as sunburns! - Check your dog regularly for ticks if you have spent time in a brushy area! - If using a halter/muzzle - make sure your dog has the ability to open their mouth to pant. Panting is a dogs means on "sweating" to regulate body temperature. If they do not have the ability to sweat then overheating can occur!
