Owner treats people like dirt and is extremely rude. Even cussing at children and makes the buver's experience feel sickening. Went in to buy a bike and my 5 year old daughter wanted to buy her sister a bell for her birthday he came cussing over at us for trying the bells as one of the bells fell apart just with one touch not even my child touching this one specifically myself. Falls apart and he comes stomping over and says this is not a fucking Walmart don't touch anything we are not here to baby sit your children this is not a day care. I was so appalled as I never leave my children alone anywhere being 5-3 and nor did I have any expectations of anyone taking responsibility for my children but me. I feel so disgusted and to yell at my children is not okay. There is a way to talk to people about circumstances or a situation and he blew a gasket and this wasn't even the first time. Over all I will not be returning. The employees were great but i truly pity when they have to be in the owners presence for he has no sense of hospitality or respect for anything!

Wow. I can't believe the ends thses people will go to to make sure your needs are met. When I brought then unthreaded forks I had bought on the internet, which needed to be threaded, the owner said "leave them with me today and let me see what I can do". When I arrived the next day they told me "there is good news, and bad news". I instantly thought I was out the $150 America I had spent foolishly online. Martin Hammond, 1 half of the owners, along with his very well educated cycling wife, told me, "I called the company you bought these from, and they refused a refund, a return, and said they were sorry but all sails were final!" He then told me he had taken my shocks to a local millwright and asked him if he could thread them to the specifications for my bike, and they sure did. Wow. When I was at his store the next day, almost crying with joy and disbelief, another crazy incident took place. Two Asian males came in whom spoke nearly no English, and were looking for a bike brand he didn't sell. Him and his fabulous wife took the time to call a half a dozen bike stores until they found someone who sold the brand and specific bike they were looking for. Unfortunately, these two men could not understand the directions due to a language barrier. These people had a staff member ride across the city with these men to direct them to the very store they needed, to buy a bike from their competition, and to make sure they got there okay, so they wouldn't got lost, and to make sure their new Canadian experience was as good as can be. I asked them, "do you always send people to your competition?" They repied "It's important that people get the bike they need for their specific needs, and if you have a barrier to overcome, why not help anyone get what they need. There is more to life than money, and we don't mind going the extra mile" This is the exact opposite of the many greedy bike stores I have endured over the years, the half truths, the ridiculous sales pitches, and the ignorance that has prevented me from finding what I want in a very expensive, upgrade heavy attitude I have experienced in London. If these peole worked for the UN, I suspect the world would have a better idea of what being Canadian is all about. This year they are volunteering for their 17th year at the local "MS ride for a cure", doing all the free bike wrenching, fixing and supporting of thousands of riders whom all gather to support a good cause. Wow It would seem these incredible two people are more interested in bike riders than bike sales. They care more about your personal riding needs and experience than they do about selling "out". If you want to go somewhere where they listen, hear you, and act as if they are your friend, or cycling ambassador, then go to First Cycleworks. You will be not only impressed, but grateful, save money, and be so ready to rock the roads and trails with confidence. After 25 years of "bike store shopping", my only wish is that I had found them sooner. Thanks Martin and Wynita Hammond, you are a class act!!!!!

I love this shop! In fact, I can't imagine why anyone would buy a new bike anywhere else. Why is that? Service, service, service. This is a straight up crew of people who love bikes and seem to want to put people on the right bike for them. Bought a Haro from them a couple of years ago and they went way out of their way to make sure it was built perfectly with attention to the details a beautiful machine should be given. And further, I just really felt like I could trust Martin and his partner Wannita. They worked with me to make sure I got the bike that would be best suited to my needs. ie. the right size and fit, well within my price abilities and even were more than happy to switch a few compontents to really make it my own. It's not a glitzy shop, there's no pretty wood floor but when I take my bike in for attention (trail riding can really do a number on your bike eh), it's always in top form when I get it back. I'm preparing to buy another commuter bike in August and guess where I'll be taking my business. That's right - First Cycleworks all the way. Oh, and I know that Martin and his boys will be out in full force for the MS ride tomorrow to volunteer their time and skills to keep us all rolling. Huge KUDOS to 1st Cycleworks. Looking forward to seeing you all this weekend.

The owner of this shop is completely arrogant. He treated us like garbage when we came in to get a free repair. He tuned the bike a week prior and the back tire came off and I hurt myself and scratched up my brand new bike. He said he would fix it for free, and when he seen everything that happened to it due to his poor work, he didnt want to have anything to do with it. He called us up and said that we were an embarrasment to him, and told us to never come back. Why even bother?

That is toally ridiculous. I have never seen these people do a "bad fix", you are obviously someone with a personal grudge, and a vindictive attitude. Of the hundreds of stories I hear about them at cycling events, 24 hour races, volunteer activities and repair stories I hear at the local "Boler mountain" weekly racing series, you are the only person to say they were rude or unprofessional. As if you are telling the truth, these people do buisness with a grace and professional attitude that makes a mockery of your response. As a competant bike rider and bike mechanic, it is so easy to see through your dishonest response. I wouldn't want you in my buisness either, you are an embarassment to yourself as any bike rider worth their own respect, who would ride a bike without checking the wheels, quick releases or adjutments first? Get off the crack Whacko Jacko..................
