If you're like us here at Great Escape RV, you enjoy using your motorhome as much as possible. Even if that means traveling throughout the cold, winter months. In addition to enjoying the beautiful winter scenery, motorhomers can go hunting, snow skiing and snowmobiling. It’s no wonder so many people enjoy using their motorhomes year-round.

RVing during the the winter months means you will have to take some extra precautions to keeping your motorhoming working at its best. Here are a few tips on how to get your RV ready and start enjoying your RV this winter season.

  • When traveling during the winter season means your RV will being traveling in below freezing temperatures. There is water in the RV water system, your plumbing lines or water heater tank could freeze, resulting in costly repair bills and ruining your wonderland RV trip. To help from avoid this from happening, travel with the water system winterized.
  • When you have reached your destination, it is a great idea to park your motorhome somewhere  that will be exposed to the sun for a long period of time. Having your motor home in the heat of the sun will help prevent anything in the RV from freezing and causing damage.
  • It is always important to know where all your plumbing lines in your RV are located. If portions of the RV water system are below floor level, in areas that are not heated, it is possible for it to freeze and damage the water lines. One way to prevent freezing is to keep the water out of one of your faucets drip to keep the water moving throughout your pipes. Another option is to use heat tape to protect any exposed water lines.
  • If you're camping in a location that dose not have access to power during the winter months, one option is a generator. A generator can keep the RV batteries topped off and allow you to use the RV furnace allowing everything to stay warm and prevent freezing. If it’s a portable generator make sure the exhaust is directed away from the area where you are camping. Regardless of the type of generator, always make sure the exhaust system is in proper operating condition and the carbon monoxide detector is working properly.
