COLOURFUL KATIA YARNS

Monday, October 7/19 – Colourful Katia Yarns

In imitation of the glorious Fall colours outside, the
TEN newest Katia Yarns to arrive are bursting with colour – from eye-catching solids to gradients to jacquards, there is something for everyone!!  We have posted all TEN yarns to our website along with shade cards, yarn details and some projects ideas.

So, in today’s email we will give you just a brief description of each yarn and also provide you with the links to each product page should you wish more information and to view the shade cards and project ideas.

First up, are our newest solid coloured yarns  with splendid texture!  May we present…

AIR LUX is a stunning blend of Viscose and Merino, with deeply saturated colours that will add a touch of glamour to your next project.  Air Lux is a breathtaking fingering weight yarn that is ideal for making shawls, cowls, scarves and ponchos in openwork, lace or eyelet stitches!

SILK MOHAIR
This beautiful, lace weight yarn is a scrumptious blend of 70% superkid mohair and 30% silk.  Light, fine and soft, Silk Mohair is knit on larger needles creating a stunning open look stitch which is as light as a feather to wear but still with some warm and breathability.  It is pretty, delicate, gossamery and finished projects take up NO space to pack while travelling.

ANGORA by Lana Stop is an ‘OH! sooo soft’, luxurious, 100% Angora yarn.  This 2-ply sport weight yarn ‘blooms’ when knit, producing a fabric that is lightweight, delicate and snuggly warm with a gorgeous halo of fuzziness.

And, now onto the colour changing yarns…

Perhaps you might remember Melody from last year?  Well, it has done so well that Katia has expanded the Melody range to include three more additions to the chunky weight Melody line.  All four yarns – Melody, Melody Color, Melody Jacquard and Melody Jacquard Print are the same gauge and can be used together or interchangeably.

MELODY
A chunky weight yarn that is light, airy & snuggly soft and will also keep you warm.  This fine merino yarn is a joy to wear – it’s like wearing a cloud!!  Melody’s plait construction contributes to its lightness thus, each 100 gram ball contains a whopping 280 metres!!

Melody has such beautiful colour combinations, especially appealing to those who like subtle and slow colour gradations.  Each ball is wound identically, with a complete gradient from ‘light to dark’.

Melody is an excellent quality yarn, milled in Italy and made of extra fine Merino wool that is hypoallergenic and ‘oh! so soft’ against your skin.

Melody by Katia is a Merino base yarn from Katia’s “Perfect Colour Cycle” line that assures the same degrade colour sequence in each and every ball (see description below).

Melody knits to a chunky weight gauge, but due to its 'chainette' construction, creates a fabric that is lightweight, voluminous, incredibly soft yet warm and breathable.  Melody come is in beautiful degrade colours.  Melody is perfect for knitting and crocheting textured shawls, squashy ponchos, springy scarves, accessories and garments to wrap up in during cold weather.

Katia’s ‘Perfect Colour Cycle’ assures an identical degrade colour effect in every ball of yarn; it also guaranties a progressive and perfect colour transition between the colours; and lastly, each ball starts and finishes with the same colour. That means, if you knit a garment with any of Katia’s Perfect Cycle yarns, you’ll always obtain the same results.

MELODY COLOR
New to the Melody “Perfect Cycle” yarn line comes Melody Color in soft gradient colours that transition into neutral solids.

MELODY JACQUARD
Very soft merino and polyamide blend with a degrade gradient effect in dark tones. Melody Jacquard is a fantastic yarn for making simple ponchos and textural shawls. A knitted scarf can be made using only two balls of yarn.  Melody Jacquard is also part of Katia’s “Perfect Colour Cycle” line.

MELODY JACQUARD PRINT
Part of Katia’s “Perfect Colour Cycle” line is Melody Jacquard Print with a soft gradient colour effect combined with a touch of animal print thanks to the Jacquard effect.  Available in a joyful colour range.

Knit an attractive cowl on circular needles using one ball of yarn, or a simple knit poncho with two balls of yarn.

AZTECA INFINITY is a DK weight, wool blend yarn, offered in soft gradient tonals. Crochet a long scarf, knit a lovely shawl or any other simple accessories using only one ball of Azteca Infinity.

AZTECA is a soft, single-ply, multicoloured yarn in a wide range of colour combinations.  Azteca is a very versatile, aran weight yarn that can be used to make all types of projects!

AZTECA DEGRADE is a multicolour, single-ply yarn in bright colours with a tweedy-melange effect in an aran weight.  Ideal for fun accessories like knitted leg warmers, pom pom hats or fluffy neck warmers.

This is the perfect time of year to knit this beautiful Fair Isle hat!  Join Janet to learn the “Two-Handed Fair Isle" method of knitting colourwork.  Unlike stranded Fair Isle knitting, the Two-Handed Method automatically eliminates any floats from occurring on the wrong side of the fabric!  This is accomplished as the colour not in use is magically woven in with the colour that is in use.  Here is the best part….. Your 2 yarns NEVER GET TANGLED UP!  Once you have learned the 3 simple steps to this technique, you can use the Two-Handed Fair Isle method on anything Fair Isle; sweaters, yokes, shawls, wraps, cowls, scarves, mittens, hats, you name it!

The Alaska hat is knit in 2 colours of 4-ply Fingering or “Sock” Weight yarn.  Choose from two solids or a combination of solids, tonals, or self-patterning yarns.  Knitting this hat is very rhythmic and is a nice project that is light in your hands.  The pattern will be provided digitally via email and a working copy will be printed and provided for use during class. There is homework associated with this class and the class fills quickly, so make sure you register early!

(* depending on yarn choice, you may have enough yarn to complete two hats, by reversing the colours for the second hat)
Rated:  All Knitters
Pre-Requisite:  Knowledge of Knit and Purl Stitches; comfortable working in the round on circular or double pointed needles

BRICK & MORTAR SHAWL
One 2.5-hour Session
Cost:  $70 (Includes $40 Yarn Credit & Pattern Leaflet)
Date & Time:  Saturday, November 9/19 from 10 am – 12:30 pm
Teacher:  Janet

Join Janet to knit the newest Shawl pattern released by London Yarns!  This shawl can be knit using 2 colours or 1 single colour of fingering weight yarn.  This shawl is suitable for knitters of all skill levels.  The pattern becomes intuitive after a few repeats, making this knit a very relaxing, rhythmic pleasure to work on.  Knitting begins at the centre bottom point, casting on only 4 stitches and the shawl grows by one “brick” when you complete each pattern section.  Participants can expect to learn the “knit-on” cast-on, mosaic knitting on both right and wrong side rows, and a neat little trick to carry the colour not in use inconspicuously up the brick edge of the shawl.
Rated:  All Knitters
Pre-Requisite:  Knowledge of Knit & Purl Stitches
